I'd like to convert my truck to run on Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) also known as SVO - Straight Vegetable Oil. Before I spend the money on a kit (www.greasecar.com), I would like to secure a few good sources for the WVO so I can use it as fuel for my diesel. I'm looking for restaurants (or an institutional kitchen) who would be willing to allow me to pick up their oil for free. I will not disturb the restaurants' business operations or make messes on the business property. I have my own 50 gallon barrels that the oil could be emptied into, or the kitchen staff could put the used fryer oil back into the 5 gallon "cubies" that the new oil comes in. I live in Central Tacoma and would be willing to drive to businesses within our region (Tacoma, Puyallup, Federal Way, Olympia, Gig Harbor, etc.).
The idea is that this would be at no extra cost to the businesses as I would provide the necessary transportation for oil pickup. I would also support the business by enjoying meals there with my family.
I've found in my research that non-hydrogenated oil is best. I've also heard that sushi restaurants seem to have very good oil for use as fuel, but I'm open to any options at this phase. If you own a business - or know someone who does - and would like to reduce your costs to have others pickup your waste oil, please contact me.
To be honest, I'm doing this for both financial and environmental reasons. I'm not looking to make a profit by making biodiesel and selling it - we just want a cheap fuel for our explorations with our Airstream and for overlanding. Let me know if you'd like to hear more about my research and hopes.
Thank you!
