We went to the Warren Miller movie again this year - I think it is becoming an annual tradition. The atmosphere is great and we get some great deals to Northwest resorts and gear shops.

November 25, 2006: Sun Peaks Resort - near Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.
Our first tracks of the 2006-07 season happened in Canada at Sun Peaks resort. It was a chilly event, reaching a whopping 17 degrees Farenheit for the day. Despite the cold, the sun was lovely, the snow was soft, and all but one of the chair lifts were open.

December 28 & 29, 2005: Colorado! Keystone & Breckenridge, respectively.
YESSS! Christmas trip to Denver in wintertime equals skiing somewhere sweet. We hung out with some extended family for about 5 days and made time for skiing on 2 of those days. Our first day at Keystone was pretty good - decent weather, which meant lots of people. By the end of the day, the snow was pushed down many runs (figuratively speaking) and lots of crunchy snow / ice was exposed. Wife and I had a good time skiing with my sisters, parents, and cousin and her daughter.
The second day was lots of blowing, dense snow. This means excellent powder on every run and fewer people, that is if one has the gear to brave the elements. Wife and I enjoyed these conditions, and the snow even cleared enough towards mid-afternoon that we took the T-bar up to the "horseshoe bowl." The bowl was our last run of the day and it was super-great. Since we were in a hurry, we dropped about 2,000 feet in 10 minutes. Not too bad!\

November 03, 2005: Warren Miller Movie - "Higher Ground"
OH YEAH! Flicks like this really get me stoked for a great season of skiing. Warren Miller is famous for making skiing / snowboarding movies for the last (I don't know how many) years. While in grad school, I'm working part time at REI (Recreation Equipment Incorporated) to help pay some bills. This is a really fun job for me and it includes perks and opportunities like working at the REI booth at the Warren Miller screening here in Tacoma. I, with 2 other employees, handed out REI flyers and magnets and then we were able to watch the movie for free! (A $20 value.) You Warren Miller fans out there know, that one does not just pay to see the movie. I also received vouchers for some free and discounted skiing in Washington, Idaho, and Canada. Free stuff and I got paid? Definitely good for me!
Anyone who knows anything about the 2004-05 Washington ski season knows that the 'season' was pretty much non-existent. This winter was the x th driest on record, which meant beautiful, sunny days near the Sound - but only rocks and grass on the slopes. Next year will be better.
2003 Season: National Student Exchange in Keene, NH.
An easy semester academically translated into a great variety and great volume of skiing. Go Keene State Owls!
